Camp Summit Rocked My World
Last July was my son Mario's first time at Camp Summit. Mario is Deaf-Blind and Camp Summit was his first chance to experience a week of adventure with no barriers, despite his disability.
We drove up from San Antonio and my plan was to go on a vacation to visit my friend in Florida while Mario was enjoying his time at camp.
Knowing that he is in a safe place and is well taken care of, Mario’s time at camp is the only chance I have to do things like this. So we dropped him off in Paradise for his week of camp fun.
I proceeded to DFW airport to catch my flight and enjoy my week of respite, but God had other plans for me and I had an accident. I fell and broke my right femur and required emergency surgery. I was hospitalized and had complications. Instead of visiting with my friend in Florida, I spent my vacation at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
My family had to get back to San Antonio, so they couldn't stay with me in Dallas. I had no choice but to call Camp Summit and have Mario's time cut short so he could get a ride back home.
Well that was the moment Camp Summit rocked my world. Not only did they say he could stay at camp, but they worked with us to find a grant to cover his camp fees and transportation costs to fly him home at the end of his session! Who does that?? Well Camp Summit did and that was such a big help for all of us. Our son Mario had never flown, and they made that experience possible for him.
Even though I didn’t get to enjoy my vacation as planned, Camp Summit made sure Mario got to enjoy his whole week at camp.
By making sure my son didn’t miss out on his week of fun and adventure with his friends, Camp Summit was able to help my family when we needed it most. I will be forever grateful for Camp Summit for all they do.
Because of all the generous donations from the community, Camp Summit is able to make a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of other campers like Mario.
